- Glazed
- Glazed leather is usually processed using pressurized glass or steel rollers, the leather's surface is polished to a high lustre. It is a vegetable or chrome tanned leather having a bright, smooth, glossy or glass-like grain finish obtained, according to the type of leather, by glazing, plating, ironing, or polishing.
- Nappa
- Nappa leather, is extremely soft and supple, and is commonly found in higher quality garments, wallets, toiletry kits, and other personal leather goods.
- Nubuck
- Buckskin is a tanning process that uses fatty materials to alter the leather. The resulting supple suede-like hide is usually smoked heavily to prevent it from rotting. Nubuck (or Buff Nubuck) is a full grain leather where the outer surface of the leather has a finely sanded, texturised finish, which gives an added appeal. Nubuck is a full quality leather and should not be confused with suede.
- Suede
- Suede is an interior split of the hide. It is 'fuzzy' on both sides. Suede is less durable than top-grain. Suede is cheaper because many pieces of suede can be split from a single thickness of hide, whereas only one piece of top-grain can be made.
- Enzyme Washed
- The garment is pre-washed or soaked in water and rinsed to give it a crumpled look. A chemical is then applied to the surface to give the garment an aged or vintage non shinny look. The garment is then tumbled for added softness. This is a lengthy and costly process creating a new and highly desirable garment that has a vintage look.
- Mau, Vintage or Ontario
- The garment has a wax affect coating to seal the leather
- Analine Leather
- A type of leather in which high quality hides have been treated with aniline as a dye. This produces a delicate, soft, supple leather. Leather is usually coloured both for aesthetic reasons and to conceal imperfections. Aniline leather is not coloured, it is what is known as naked leather. The leather breathes, making it more comfortable to wear in both hot and cold weather.
- Semi-Aniline Leather
- A leather in which the base coat contains finish but later coats contain only dye, or contrasting pigment, to give a two-tone appearance, designed to imitate aniline leather.
